The joint investigation between the St. Mary's County and Calvert County sheriff's offices led to the arrest of Markell Davian Carter, 28, who was arrested during a traffic stop in Calvert County.

This week, investigators executed a search and seizure warrant at an apartment in the 2200 block of Iverson Drive in Great Mills, where they seized a variety of drugs and weapons, according to officials.

During their search, detectives found drugs "in sufficient quantities to indicate possession with intent to distribute:

Multiple pounds of cannabis;

  • Psilocybin mushrooms;
  • Cocaine;
  • Fentanyl;
  • Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD).

They also found a loaded rifle, ammunition, multiple ballistic vests.

A spokesperson for the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office said that just before executing the warrant at the Great Mills residence, deputies in Calvert County stopped Carter for a traffic violation.

During that stop, they found a loaded handgun that was modified with a rapid-fire trigger activator that would allow multiple bullets to be shot, and police call a "fully automatic firearm."

Drug and weapon charges are pending against Carter in St. Mary's County. He's currently being held at the Calvert County Detention Center.
